As the number of coronavirus cases in India increases to more than 300, the government is attempting to minimize its transmission through Janta curfew.

Basically, Janta curfew is a public curfew. Accordingly, it is a self-imposed quarantine from 7 am to 9 pm, with the objective to break the chain of coronavirus infection.

“Let us all be part of this curfew, which will add tremendous strength to the fight against the COVID-19 menace,” PM Narendra Modi said in a tweet.

“The steps we take now will help us in the times to come. Stay indoors and stay healthy.”

Ahead of Janta curfew, several cities previously urged their citizens to remain at their houses to prevent further transmissions. However, the curfew marks the nationwide movement.

So far, India reported 332 cases of COVID-19 with 5 deaths among them. With the initiation of Janta curfew, India hopes that the death tolls would not increase.

India and Janta Curfew, the Problems in Combating Coronavirus

Public widely supports PM Modi’s Janta curfew in minimizing the risk of coronavirus further transmissions. Various public figures such as athletes have been showing positive supports by uploading warning videos on their social media accounts.

However, in reality, parts of societies complain about the new policy. Among the complaints is the emerging challenges for people who have to work daily to make a living, such as street vendors.

With the implementation of the curfew, Indian cities look like abandoned cities as normal daily activities barely happen. Only businesses and government establishments dealing in essential items and services will remain open.

Starting from Sunday, no commercial aeroplanes from foreign countries will have the permission to land in the country. India is temporarily isolating itself.

Furthermore, people are not allowed to go out of their houses unless they have urgent business. However, PM Modi asks citizens to go to their own balconies at 5 pm while bringing pots and pans to appreciate frontline healthcare workers.
