On Sunday (Apr 12) Singapore reported 233 new cases COVID-19, bringing its total number of cases to 2,532. Of the new cases, 51 are associated with identified clusters. Meanwhile, 15 others are associated with earlier cases, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its regular update.
The remaining 167 touch tracing cases are pending. Of the 167 individuals, 141 are holders of work permits. The case dominated in residing in dormitories, workplaces and other living quarters, MOH said.
Seventeen cases are Singaporeans or permanent residents. And then, ten are “residing in our culture” job passes or long-term pass holders, the health ministry said.
Seven new clusters have been identified including one linked to the Marina Bay Sands Black Tap bar. another linked to the McDonald’s fast food chain and others linked to the Tuas View Dormitory and 85 Kallang Dormitory foreign worker dormitories.
Black Tap-a restaurant known for its burgers and milkshakes had eight cases. Meanwhile, McDonald’s had five infections. Tuas View Dormitory and Kallang Dormitory 85 each have eight and five infections.
More Cases at Foreign Worker Dorms
Further cases also identified at existing clusters, including various dormitories for foreign workers. Thirty more cases connected to the S11 Dormitory @ Punggol. Now, it has a total of 365 reported cases-Singapore’s biggest cluster.
Five more cases linked to Toh Guan Dormitory, bringing its total to 45. Meanwhile, another 17 cases were at Sungei Tengah Lodge. Now it has 80 cases.
Number of Imported Cases Has Come Down to Zero
In daily COVID-19 cases MOH also provided an overview of the pattern based on different forms of transmission.
Owing to a large number of returnees, the number of cases imported grew around mid-March but has since fallen to zero, the ministry said.
Following a flood of new imported cases, the number of cases in the group increased but has seen some moderation in the last days. This is in the light of earlier secure distancing steps, MOH said.
On Saturday, officials further tightened circuit breaker controls, recommending that riders wear public transport masks and close all beaches.
Markets will also deny entry to people who do not wear face masks and food distributors will face penalties if they do not wear masks or face guards on their employees.
