MOM said it has stepped up factory-converted dormitory checks. It aims to preserve and ensure the effectiveness of distancing steps in a small field in Singapore.
This include ensuring staff remain as long as possible in their offices, and leaving the premises only when they need to purchase vital goods and services.
The authorities inspected between 11 and 13 Apr. Over 600 factory-converted dormitories situated at Sungei Kadut, Tuas and other locations around Singapore.
“Serious Risk” of Outbreak
MOM had previously provided an advisory to employers who are householding their foreign employees outside purpose-built dormitories to remind them to maintain secure distancing steps in the midst of COVID-19.
“In recent days, more COVID-19 cases have affected foreign work pass holders at these places of residence, “MOM said.” The facility has a significant risk of widespread outbreak.”
Safe Distancing Measures
MOM has told employers that there should be no mixing of staff between blocks and between floors, if necessary.
The advisory warns them. “Each group of residents living on the same floor will have an open space time of at least one hour per day.”
Workers should register their time in and out every time they leave the dormitory. Employers must also ensure their needs. For instance, they have their meals catered for their work pass holders to eliminate the need to leave their dormitories. Therefore, they don’t need to go outside.
