Medical experts sent by China cautioned that the Philippines is facing a “serious risk” of failing to contain COVID-19. The citing restricted hospital beds, medical supplies and testing capacities in the Southeast Asian country.
“They found that the Philippines faced a major risk that the source of the infection could not be fully cut off,” the Chinese state-run CCTV Asia Pacific announced on Tuesday April 14.
Upon visiting 6 hospitals including the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. The Chinese experts reached the conclusion and talked via videoconferencing with Filipino experts.
Wang Shangeng, head of the Chinese medical expert team, stated to CCTV Asia Pacific.
“Owing to the restricted beds and testing resources in the Philippines, many of the COVID-19 patients are still quarantined at home.”
A Fangqang shelter hospital will build in the Philippines immediately. Wang suggested as a “fundamental measure to combat COVID-19.

However, the issue isn’t over with the shortage of hospital beds. Recommendations from the Chinese experts come as COVID-19 cases in the Philippines continue to increase although new cases in China continue to decrease. On Thursday 16 April, the Philippines reported 207 new cases of COVID-19, taking the number to 5,660. At least 362 people in the Philippines have died from coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the number of new COVID-19 cases in China was small on Thursday at a two-week small. 26 new cases registered on the mainland by the Chinese government. 82,367 cases of COVID-19 reportedly occurred in China.
However, foreign experts have cautioned against believing China’s COVID-19 propaganda. The Asian giant accused of faking its statistics and initially dissimulating the discovery of the disease in Hubei Province in China.
