Malaysia announced the lowest number of new cases of coronavirus on Friday (April 17) since movement curbs started on March 18, with Health Ministry announcing 69. It was just the second time that the director-general of the ministry, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, had announced a double-digit rise since the Motion Control Order (MCO) began.
Malaysia confirmed 85 new Covid-19 cases Wednesday. The cases increase day by day and probably it will increase.
Improving evidence from lower active cases and a high patient recovery rate in Malaysia has provided hope that its controls on movement have helped reduce infections while allowing hospitals to concentrate on care.
Malaysia is in the 31st day of the residence-at-home order on Friday. The MCO’s third phase will close on April 28.
On Friday Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said the 69 new Malaysia COVID-19 cases took the cumulative number to 5,251.
He said that in the past 24 hours 201 people have been discharged-the fifth consecutive day in which the number of people discharged surpassed the number of new cases.
The overall number of discharged patients stood at 2,967, or 56.5 per cent of recovered Covid-19 patients.
2,198 people are waiting for the diagnoses.
Two additional deaths increase the number to 86. This translates from the total number of cases into a fatality rate of 1.64 per cent.
One fatality was an 84-year-old male in Pahang. Another Covid-19 patient was an 85-year-old male who comes from Kuala Lumpur. The treament for those patients are ongoing. The data was according to Dr. Noor Hisham. He said that 51 Covid-19 patients are currently in intensive care units, with 26 needing ventilators.
