India has launched the cruelest social experiment in human history, which is locking the entire population. Including around 176 million people who struggle to survive on just 1.9 dollars a day or less.
Those with a good economy can sit nicely in their apartments while watching Bollywood movies on Netflix and ordering food online. Meanwhile, poor Indian citizens have to cry to hold hunger because bad situations happen to them.
For them, lockdown in a 6-9 foot room inhabited by 5 people, without work, without eating, has scared them.
Indian Unemployment
Additionally, chaos had occurred in many areas. Due to the closure of industrial factories and restrictions on public transportation, most migrant workers are forced to walk back to their villages. They do not have enough money to survive, because their wages paid daily.
Indian Economy Center of Monitoring (CMIE) predicts that more than 24% of Indian unemployment has occurred due to lockdowns in India as of Thursday (05/07/2020).
These are not just numbers that appear to frighten. This is a picture of a human tragedy because the current conditions are perhaps the most vulnerable point of social life. Many people have lost their jobs so that they cannot meet their daily needs.
The government initially thought that lockdown would indeed only hurt the workers and informal workers. But, this policy will hurt companies that previously felt safer. Starting with a startup, followed by several other industries.
The impact of this soaring unemployment rate makes work competition also tighter. CMIE said that out of the unemployed, 36 percent of them have now struggled desperately to find new livelihoods to continue their lives.
