Manila Electric Company’s consumers will not have to worry about unpaid bills. As the enhanced community quarantine, the company allows its customers to settle it via four monthly payments. Therefore, there is no worry about the unpaid bills.
They developed the installment program to assist their customers during this global pandemic, according to Meralco spokeswoman Joe Zaldarriaga. “During the ECQ there will be a scheme of payments for unpaid dues. The separation of payments is in the form of four payments per month. We did so to support our customers,” he added.
Zaldarriaga said before the unpaid duties are done within four months, the supply would add to the unpaid duties.
He added that during this ECQ period, the power distribution company would carry out with no disconnection operations.
Current Billing Method
At present, as a basis for their current bill, Meralco is averaging the kilowatt-hour consumption of each consumer for the last three months. “The regulator’s advice and order to us is to apply the previous average of three months, as per the magna carta,” he said.
He added that the system would automatically correct electricity bills according to customer use once Meralco is already allowed to physically read meters.
Instead of that, some consumers can obtain a refund because they haven’t used as much energy. And then, others may have to pay an additional cost.
