The world used to look up to Singapore in the fight against COVID-19. However, as cases continually escalate at rapid rates and other Asian countries are gradually catching up, has the country failed?
Back then, the Lion City was a leading example of how a country should deal with coronavirus pandemic. Singapore implemented arguably influential regulations, backed up by dedications from its whole community and government.
That said, considering its development, Singapore is entering a more chronic phase in its fight against COVID-19. Mike Toole, an Australian communicable disease specialist, even described the country as one of the greatest failures in the world now.
Singapore has just confirmed a total number of 27,356 cases after reporting another 465 cases in a day. Experts often compare Singapore with Vietnam, which currently becomes an exemplary instance in global coronavirus fight.
Furthermore, experts also argue that a post-pandemic Singapore would need more than an economic reform. The country, in addition, requires a structural reform including all members of its communities.

The COVID-19 Fights in Singapore

Considering the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases in the country, Singapore is currently hiring swabbers, offering generous salaries for those who want to help the government conduct tests in such areas as migrant worker dormitories.
Accordingly, migrant worker dormitories, which now put under quarantine, contribute much to the case escalation in the country. The cramped areas, housing roughly 323,000 foreign workers, have become the focus of the government in the upcoming weeks.
