The Department of Interior and Local Government ( DILG) expects the second tranche of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) cash assistance. It is going to distribute more quickly for the month of May.
The government plans to give 15 days to local government units ( LGUs). It aims to complete the distribution of the emergency cash subsidy to families.
It goes for the family affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said yesterday.
“I think the ones are on the list. In addition, this time, we expect the distribution to be faster. Once the money and social welfare arrive at the LGUs, 15 days is more than enough to complete the distribution,” Año said in a dzBB radio station interview.
The Distribution of the First SAP
The distribution of the first SAP tranche in April was full of confusion and complaints. A majority of residents believed that they were eligible based on the government’s requirement. But, it didn’t include in the beneficiaries list.
It took some LGUs over a month to complete the cash aid distribution. Many LGUs were reprimanded for breaching social isolation, as the beneficiaries flocked simultaneously at the places where the distribution was carried out.
Año said LGUs should have already overcome the challenges they faced during the first tranche distribution. This time, they expect to make a quicker payout.
He said LGUs are vital in helping distribute the cash subsidy to the Department of Social Welfare and Development ( DSWD). It is particularly if the payout is done manually.
Apart from the LGUs, he cited the military and police to help the DSWD ensure that cash assistance could reach the recipients, particularly in remote and rebel-infested regions.
About five million families will receive the second cash assistance intended for families affected by the ECQ. Hence, the government has introduced to control the 2019 or COVID-19 coronavirus disease.
