Wirecard former chief operating officer, Jan Marsalek, returned to the Philippines on June 23. Then, he left for China a day later, according to entries in the B (BI) central database.
However, on Friday, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said that while records showed the Wirecard former chief left the Philippines on June 24. He left from the Cebu International Airport.
Yet, the case was nonsense. There is no CCTV footage of him arriving in the country. In addition, there was no record of any June 24 flight to China.
“But CCTV footage doesn’t show him arriving here. There is no record of any flight from Cebu to China scheduled for the morning of 24 June,” Guevarra noted.
The DOJ chief said that an investigation is currently underway to decide if the anomalies were due to a technological malfunction or record tampering.
“The findings of the MIS [Management Information System] personnel investigation could lead to various scenarios including the possibility of using diversionary tactics to confuse Marsalek’s pursuers,” Guevarra said.
The Scandal of Wirecard Has Not Accomplished Yet
Guevarra earlier said Marsalek was in the country on March 3rd, remained in Makati, and left on March 5th.
That is bothering though. The entry was on June 23. On that date, he arrived in the country but left for China one day later.
“It doesn’t seem to be a pure transit scenario, as he left the next day. If this were the case of a simple move from one flight to another, there would no longer be any record in the BI. Logically, he wouldn’t have to reach the immigration area, “he said in another interview about CNN Philippines.
Upon finding accounting anomalies around a missing US$ 2.1-billion fund, Wirecard, a German fintech company, is mired in a large-scale financial scandal.
