Multiple charges await embattled cargo delivery company J&T Express.
It was following a police inquiry and President Rodrigo Duterte ordered on Monday’s suspected. It was mishandling of delivery packages, the top cop of the country said.
Philippine National Police Chief Archie Gamboa said authorities have uncovered numerous violations. The last-mile distribution service committed it.
There was hot water in June. Because of a viral video showing, some of its workers carelessly tossing packages into the delivery truck.
The same video showed workers inside a warehouse without face masks and shirts. They sorted parcels and tossed them into trucks.
It was mostly catering to online shoppers at the height of the pandemic. J&T Express has apologized and said sanctions have been given to workers involved.
J&T Got a Problem
Gamboa said apart from this, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) showed that J&T also violated labor laws which the PNP is now coordinating with the Department of Labor and Employment. It was alongside violations of the Law on Reporting of Communicable Diseases.
Gamboa said during a press conference about the case.
“Sure enough, in violation of RA (Republic Act) 11332 and that of (RA) 7394 or Consumer Protection Act, we were able to successfully file separate lawsuits.”
It was also discovered that J&T’s hub in Muntinlupa worked without the permission of a mayor, with Gamboa claiming that a closure order has been served since.
“Our regional offices of the CIDG are also gathering evidence on their provincial hubs. There might also be violations,” he added.
It was the probe covering possible breaches of local ordinances in terms of permits. And also, it was for violations of trade and labor regulations.
In 2018 J&T Express was in the region from Indonesia. It is with a partner with major brands like Shopee online shopping app.
Duterte earlier warned he would shut down J&T Express if government investigators find violations.
