Four people with a flag of radical transport party PISTON onboard a jeepney of SONA 2020 were detained. It happened hours before the Nation’s fifth state address on Monday.
Metro Manila Police Chief Debold Sinas said the four people violated the law against conventional jeepneys in the midst of quarantine restrictions in the city.
The apprehending was near Quezon Memorial Circle. Then, the complaints went to Camp Caringal where their preparation was over there, Sinas said.
The city government did not grant permits for any public assembly. It was in line with the national government’s ban on mass gatherings.
Ralliers are only for the stage in their protests inside the Diliman campus of the University of the Philippines, Quezon City. Inside the UP Campus, groups of various advocacy groups are going to converge. And also, it was a stage of protest action. In other words, it was a “SONAgKAISA” from 10 am to 12 pm.
PNP said state security forces are going to practice maximum tolerance, but it has prevented other national rally rallies from gathering as coronavirus remains a threat. The PNP has said if the protests are too “serious,” it would arrest demonstrators.
Penultimate Speech from Duterte
Duterte will deliver his penultimate speech at 4 p.m. in front of the nation Traditional venue for the constitutionally mandated SONA in the Batasang Pambansa district.
Police chief Metro Manila said they’ve deployed civilian clothing staff to track closely the vicinity of Commonwealth Avenue.
There won’t be any arguments for it is apprehending. The apprehending was all converging into groups. The law process goes for all who carry out placards for the rally.
In addition, over 6,000 police workers deployed along Batasang Pambansa and Commonwealth Avenue to protect the venue.
And then, its perimeters to ensure the safe and smooth operation. It will be held on Monday afternoon of President Rodrigo Duterte’s fifth State of the Nation Address.
Overall, in case of demonstrations get too rowdy, nearly 2,000 security forces will be on standby for the potential increase of SONA 2020.
