Pandemic impact hit us immediately after the first case of coronavirus in Indonesia was confirmed on 2 March 2020. Indonesia government declared large-scale social restriction immediately. Some regions went on lockdown. People started working, studying, shopping, and doing almost everything from home. The consumer spending was going down massively. It caused many businesses to close. Those who did not, have done many attempts to make the business stay operating. We acknowledge that pandemic has changed every aspect of our daily lives. But, do you know how much the pandemic changed how businesses works in Indonesia?

Large-scale social restriction, as one of pandemic impact, is affecting 91.7% of businesses responder in Indonesia in providing more opportunities to work remotely to ensure their employees’ safety and health. It increases the possibility of working remotely more in the future. We are in digital era anyway, utilizing more digital processes will begin sooner or later.
Wait, it has begun! because 75% business responder has accelerated the digitalization of work processes such as using video conference to do meetings.
58.3% accelerate automation tasks. Replacing workforce with automation processes more. Furthermore, machines cannot be infected by coronavirus right? However, this also caused 41.7% of businesses responder to reduce workforce temporarily to minimize the number of workers to maintain the spending. However, there is possibility to employ the reduced workforce back when the business recover.
Last but not least 41.7% business responder accelerate the implementation of upskilling/reskilling programs. Pandemic has changed our whole situation. Those who are not able to adapt fast will be left behind. A business is dependent on workers’ performance. the better performance of workers, the better the quality of the business. So, it is an attempt to adapt with the COVID-19 crisis in order to survive by upgrading the workers. Kill two birds with one stone!
