Employment depends on industrial needs. Meanwhile, industrial needs depends on customer demand and customer demand depends on the latest trends. This of course causes a lot of uncertainty in the future of a workforce. One of the predictions is based on data conducted by the World Economic Forum on companies and organizations in 26 countries.
Human resource is a person who is capable of doing work in order to produce goods or services. Both to meet their own needs and for the community, based on Indonesia Law no. 13 2003 Chapter I article 1 paragraph 2. People in this category are people who are in productive age, around 15 – 64 years-old. Both for those who already have a job and those who are still looking for one.
Here are some of the possible changes that will occur in the future regarding employment:
The highest probability with a percentage of 55.1% is changing the composition of the company or organization’s value chain. Value chain itself is a series of activities carried out by a company or organization. Each of these activities adds value to the products offered. The changing times can affect this chain. Thus, it results in the reduction or increasing needs of workforce. The shift is according to the change of activities in the company or organization’s value chain.
Reducing human resource with the integration of automation and technology was the second largest probability at 43.2%. On the other hand, the additional needs of workforce in supporting the integration of automation and technology has a 34.5% probability.
Increasing the use of expert workers from other companies that fit the needs will be mostly done with a 41.8% probability. Outsourcing is considered more effective to do in projects that require experts from different fields.
Changing the company’s location with the possibility of 38.3% could increase the workforce requirements for certain areas and reduce it in the previous region. The more businesses that operate in an area, the job vacancies will increase. So, local residents will have a more prosperous life.
From the possibilities that have been mentioned above, not all of them are negative and not all of them are positive. It’s about how we see opportunities, take advantage and face the given challenges in the future.
