China is ready to deliver its promised Covid-19 vaccine to several developing countries in Asia and Africa. This is a follow-up to China’s promise to make a vaccine for all and not just for developed countries.
Reporting from CNN International, China is reported to have provided a room with a total area of 350 square meters with adequate air temperature control and officers equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE).
The warehouse will soon be filled with rows of Covid-19 vaccines made in China. It has received approval from the country’s drug regulator. From there, they will be loaded into temperature-controlled cargo jet compartments and flown to continents around the world.
In the coming months, China will send hundreds of millions doses of the covid-19 vaccine to countries. The countries must have conducted trials of the last stage of China’s Covid-19 vaccine. Chinese leaders have also promised a growing list of developing countries’ priorities for access to a successful vaccine.
This step is useful to expand Beijing’s influence
According to some analysts this step is seen as a step to expand Beijing’s influence around the world “softly”. And also improve the image of China which is accused of failing to control the spread of covid-19.
“Vaccines are a foreign policy instrument for promoting soft power. And also projecting international influence,” said Yanzhong Huang, a senior fellow for global health at the Washington-based Council on Foreign Relations.
Earlier in the pandemic, China’s efforts to donate masks and other supplies to countries hit by the virus were tainted by reports of poor quality supplies, and allegations that Beijing launched a disinformation campaign to change the coronavirus narrative.
Currently China is strengthening its foreign policy regarding vaccines compared to Trump’s who emphasizes “America First” in the injection of the vaccine.
Several companies such as Sinopharm, CanSino Biologics, and China National Biotech Group (CNBG) have pressed MoU on sales to several countries. Such as Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UEA).
