Shocking news came from Malaysia. The Crown Prince of Johor State, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, admitted that he is eyeing shares in the English football club, Manchester United. Tunku Ismail made this admission a few weeks after rumors that he would take over the Spanish football club, Valencia.
“I am open to all shares of (club) football in Europe,” he said as quoted by AFP, Sunday (21/3/2021).
He admitted that he chose to target MU shares because there was information that the Red Devils had opened an investment in the amount of 3% -5% shares.
“Manchester United is a club whose commercial value has only decreased for decades. In terms of sustainability they are extraordinary. That is why I will try to hold a meeting,” said Tunku Ibrahim.
Earlier this month, the prince sparked public speculation through a series of posts on Instagram. Tunku Ismail is reportedly interested in buying Valencia. He said the club needed someone who was “thirsty for success”, adding that his innovation made history. For the record, Valencia is owned by Peter Lim, a crazy rich from Singapore.
There is no doubt about Tunku Ismail’s progress in the Malaysian sports scene. The 36-year-old man is the owner of the Malaysian Super League champion club, Johor Darul Ta’zim. Last year, JDT won the title as well as the seventh successive achievement. Tunku Ismail recently inaugurated the Sultan Ibraham Stadium with a capacity of 40 thousand spectators.
