With this goal, PETRONAS built a special institution called PETRONAS Hydrogen established in 2020. This division aims at becoming an end-to-end solution provider of hydrogen.
Hydrogen is one of the clean energy vectors that is sustainable. It protects the environment by minimizing the use of fossil fuel. It also helps to reduce pollution as well as cut greenhouse gasses.
PETRONAS has the confidence to be a world-renowned reliable LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) supplier. This is because the company has the experience in extracting blue hydrogen from its facilities. So at this level, PETRONAS makes solid collaboration with Malaysia’s hydropower suppliers to explore the commercial world. It would continue to strengthen the supply chain.
Transporting and storing hydrogen, PETRONAS pursues projects on green and blue hydrogen conversion of liquid into ammonia or methylcyclohexane optimization. The company’s research and development believes that this would gives its consumers clean and cost-competitive hydrogen.
Apart from its hydrogen product, the company also invested in another sustainable initiative. It involves converting biomass into renewable energy. It allows palm oil empty brunch materials without having to interrupt the food chain supply.
PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) drives this sustainability commitment. The company has a bigger plan to convert biomass into a sustainable feedstock, said Forbes. This would create renewable chemical products such as packaging, textiles, automotive, as well as electronics. PCG will showcase the pilot project this year 2022.
