Cryptocurrency exchange BitMart was stolen about $200 million worth of crypto by hackers.
According to CNBC on the 5th (local time), “PekShield,” a blockchain security and data analysis company, announced on the 4th that hackers have stolen $196 million worth of cryptofrom Bitmart.
Bitmartdo admitted in a statement on the same day that there was a massive security breach. However, he explained that the amount of damage caused by hacking was about 150 million dollars. BitMart plans to temporarily suspend all withdrawals and conduct security checks until further notice.
According to BitMart, hacking damage occurred in hot wallets connected to the Internet. The hot wallet in question stores more than 20 types of Binancecoin, Safe Moon, and Shibainu, which are part of the exchange’s assets.
BitMart said it has yet to be confirmed how hackers hacked. In addition, it has yet to respond to customer damage caused by this hacking and future compensation.
