Recently, Indonesia and Malaysia reached the top position in the 2019 Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI), which was discharged by Mastercard-CrescentRating.
Both of them scored 78 in the index this year.
Last year, Malaysia got 80.6 while Indonesia tied with the United Arab Emirates with a score of 72.8.
Furthermore, there is no second position of Global Muslim Travel Index this year.
The rest of the top 10 countries are: Turkey (score of 75), Saudi Arabia (72), United Arab Emirates (71), Qatar (68), Morocco (67), Bahrain (66), Oman (66) and Brunei (65).
A CrescentRating CEO, said that Indonesia put a great deal in a framework to make Muslim friendly destinations.
He added that the accessibility of halal foods and Muslim facilities have a great deal of progress. It likewise has a better network.
In addition, Indonesia put resources into Muslim travel industry and promote through digital marketing or social media.
However, Indonesia still has lots of work to do.
So, Indonesia can keep up the position and build up Muslim-friendly tourism destinations.
In characterizing the positioning, GMTI assesses four key variables. They are access, communication, the environment and service to Muslim travelers.
Arief Yahya, a Tourism Minister, shows that Indonesia can improve the position is an effect of plans since 2015.
Indonesia got 6th position in 2015, fourth in 2016, third in 2017 and second a year ago. Thus, it took five years to achieve the top position.
The Tourism Ministry has set an objective of 5 million outside Muslim travelers this year. There were more than 2.6 million Muslim travelers who visited Indonesia a year ago.
