The tech leviathan Microsoft is planning to develop a new cryptocurrency, with a unique system, contrasting to what existing currencies, such as Bitcoin, have.
Dissimilar to Bitcoin’s energy-intensive mining system, Microsoft’s novel cryptocurrency will run by human’s body heat. Additionally, simple activities even the passive ones will be able to power the system.
“A brain wave or body heat emitted from the user when the user performs the task provided by an information or service provider, such as viewing advertisement or using certain internet services, can be used in the mining process,” Microsoft explained.
The company will utilize special sensors that will connect to a server and crypto mining participants. The server, furthermore, will send a task request to the user’s device and check whether the activities meet the conditions of the system.
So far, Microsoft’s ideas are completely different from the conventional cryptocurrency mining systems. Further information suggests that Microsoft already files patent for the new Bitcoin competitor.

How Microsoft Cryptocurrency Will Win Against Bitcoin
Considering what Microsoft explained, the unusual cryptocurrency has many advantages over the conventional systems. Instead of mining rigs, the body head sensor system will be able to solve complex computational problems.
The clearest advantage is the independence to not rely on expensive and energy-intensive hardware. Additionally, expensive ASIC mining rigs also consume lots of electricity to power the Bitcoin network.
Moreover, PoW-based cryptocurrency consumes more power than Chile. Also, 98% of the outdated ASICs are going straight to a landfill, causing a huge pile of e-wastes.
However, what Microsoft has to focus on is the security of its cryptocurrency system. Aside from the price volatility, cryptocurrencies also have a high level of security risks considering the number of cybercrimes happening.
