CNBC reported on the 1st of June that Apple has started to cut iPhone prices ahead of the June 18 shopping festival in China.
Apple’s decision came as China is quickly normalizing its economy to overcome the impact of Covid-19 outbreak.
In China, Apple distributes it’s products through various channels. Apple has an official store on T Mall, an e-commerce site owned by Alibaba. Another e-commerce company, JD.com is also Apple’s leading reseller, CNBC said.
Currently, users can purchase the iPhone 11 64GB model for 4779 yuan (about $670). This is 13 percent lower than the previous selling price of 5,499 yuan ($772). The iPhone 11 Pro, which was sold for 8,699 yuan ($1,222), is now trading at 7,579 yuan ($1,064).
The price of the iPhone Pro Max went down from 9,599 yuan ($1,348) to 8,359 yuan ($1,174). The iPhone SE, which started selling recently, has been changed from 3,299 yuan ($463) to 3,099 yuan ($435).
However, according to CNBC, Apple official website in China has no notice of iPhone prices cut.
But JD.com has launched more aggressive price cuts.
The iPhone 11 64GB model is traded at 4,599 yuan ($642). The iPhone 11 Pro is priced at 6,999 yuan ($983). If the full discount is applied, the iPhone 11 Pro will be discounted by more than 21% compared to the amount originally offered by JD.com. The price of the iPhone SE went down from 3,199 yuan ($449) to 3,069 yuan ($431).
A spokesman for JD.com said that while they offer discounts every day for the June 18 shopping festival, the discount structure may vary depending on the day of the week.
CNBC reported that significant price cuts for major brands such as Apple ahead of the June 18 Shopping Festival show that the two electronic trading companies are fiercely competing to attract consumers’ attention.
“This is the second time for Apple to participate in the June 18 event,” said Will Ong, an analyst at IDC. “Apple, which enjoyed discount events last year, is making efforts to boost demand this year. In an atmosphere where consumption has become cautious due to the Corona 19 incident.”
Meanwhile, the “June 18 Shopping Festival” is the founding day of JD.com, China’s second-largest e-commerce company.
