Nubia may not be a big name on the international smartphone market, but under the Red Magic brand, the company has made some solid gaming phones, with the latest being the Red Magic 5G.
In mid-April, the Nubia Red Magic 5G became available worldwide. If you wanted 12 GB of RAM, however, you had to purchase the Pulse Neon color and that model only came with 256 GB of storage, which drove up the cost.
The Red Magic 5G comes with an AMOLED display measuring 6.65 inches. This provides a much smoother 144Hz refresh rate, unlike other smartphones. And Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 comes in helping to support the higher refresh rate without any lag. The chipset is combined with LPDDR5 RAM up to 12 GB and UFS 3.0 storage up to 256 GB.
If the games you run feel cramped at 8 GB (but somehow you don’t need the extra storage), now you can buy the phone in a 12/128 GB configuration as well.
This version is painted in darkest dark Eclipse Black and was previously only available in China. In addition, it turned out to be quite popular. Hence, the global rollout.
Being a smartphone that centers on gaming, it comes with many features. First, it rocks the advanced cooling system. As you know, smartphones with 5G tend to heat up faster than the LTE. Therefore we have liquid cooling on Red Magic 5G with an internal fan.
The shoulder buttons are available for a better gaming experience. And most importantly, the phone features a 3.5 mm headphone jack. A 4,500 mAh battery is available with support for 55W fast charging.
Special Price List for Gamers
That $599 price tag is pretty sweet and gives you four additional RAM gigs for a $20 premium because the 8 GB RAM model with the same storage capacity will set you back up by $579.
The rest of the internals at Nubia Red Magic 5G is equally impressive too, and for a console-like gaming experience, you also get two capacitive shoulder buttons.
You can order that version from the Red Magic store. It’s available in most regions right now, though you’ll have to wait 10-12 days for the phone to ship. The Red Magic 5G with 12/128 GB memory arrives on June 22 in North America.
The price for the additional four gigs of RAM is just $20/€20. But then, it’s not a big leap to have twice as much space to play games from there.
