The Pokémon Company is joining the MOBA arena with Pokémon Unite-news on Thursday, June 25. The game was revealed at Pokémon Presents, a live-streamed gathering.
Pokémon Unite falls into the same category as League of Legends, Dota 2, Valor’s Arena, and new mobile MOBA king, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
As with any MOBA, there will be five-on-five fights with players. The selection is from a number of Pokémon. For instance, picks, Charmander, Pikachu, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. MOBA stands for an online fighting arena multiplayer.
Players must also level up as they advance through the match, learn new skills along the way, and battle on the map over 3 lanes.
Tallgrass will also obscure vision. In addition, it provides opportunities for ambushes. And then, wild Pokémon will be available to capture during battles as well, Gamespot said.
Nonetheless, some game previews point to the MOBA formula with some new elements.
In cooperation with Tencent and Timi Studios, the studio behind another mobile MOBA, Arena of Valor, and Call of Duty: Mobile, the game is being developed. On Twitter, Timi Studios calls the game “a new and exciting project.”
Pokémon Go is Going to be free-to-play
Although the company has a mobile experience with Pokémon Go, it may be helpful to recruit a studio experienced with mobile MOBAs.
The experience of Timi Studios with mobile MOBA mechanics, the Pokémon franchise’s appeal, and the genre’s enduring success could help propel Unite to be a smash.
The game is going to be free-to-play but microtransactions are likely. It’ll be available with cross-platform play support on iOS and Nintendo Switch.
The announcement comes only as the alpha process begins in the Philippines for League of Legends: Wild Rift, another smartphone MOBA.
Regardless of his League of Legends heritage, Wild Rift is as a candidate for the top spot in the genre. League of Legends, along with Dota 2 is one of the two most common MOBAs on desktop.
