Always Give More
When a boss gives you a task, don’t just settle for a minimum requirement. Give and do more. When you do something more, it shows hard work. That means you can be trusted to do bigger responsibilities.
Everyone is a Mentor
A mentor guides you to work better. But it does not mean to just seek guidance to superior or older colleagues. It can also mean identifying a skill you want to learn.“Everyone is a mentor. You see somebody speak, you say ‘I like the way that person speaks,’ you adapt your way of doing it,” Welch says. “Translate it into your way of doing things.”
Authenticity
According to Welch, doors will open when you build your career by being yourself, rather than imitating others. “Authenticity is such a value that people lose sight of,” Welch said. “Learn from everybody, but be yourself.”
Ask How You Should Improve
Speak up and ask questions. If you don’t, how can you know what to improve? Asking questions leads to answers, thus, you acquire knowledge. There’s is nothing wrong admitting where you lack. It actually opens an opportunity to improve or become a better person.
Don’t Go Around Your Boss
Don’t find a way around your boss even if you are not getting satisfaction. “Going around your boss is a losing strategy. It’s not going to work,” Welch warns.
Former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink recommends becoming your boss’ ally. “Regardless of whether my boss is an amazing human being or a horrible human being,” says Willinik “what I’m trying to do is build a relationship with them.”
