ABS-CBN’s subsidiary, Play Innovations Inc, announces Kidzania Manila will stop operating as of 31 August 2020. The unsettling Covid-19 pandemic pushed Kidzania’s revenue on the edge. The amusement park will provide aids for its workers, and bids its last goodbye to their customers.
More than just an amusement park, Kidzania Manila is also an educational park
Kidzania was first opened in 2015. The place is remarkable for its services in letting children experience fun yet realistic insight into the adult world. The amusement park is complete with paved streets, a transport system, and a functioning company. Kids can choose up to 70 immersive role-playing activities as their professions. They can even enroll in a university for a degree, receive services from a beauty salon, and train to become an athlete.
Covid-19 resulted in a massive impact on revenue
Through CNN Philippine, Kidzania’s reps released an official letter related to the news. Previously, Kidzania has been suspending its services since 11th March 2020 due to Covid-19. In compliance to suppress Covid-19’s spreading, operations of the amusement facility have been halted. Unfortunate to Kidzania, this massively impacted on their revenue. The constantly receding revenue made Kidzania come to the decision to shut the door for good.
Official release from Play Innovations further explained the reason behind their intention to stop operating in the future. “Even if we are allowed to operate in the future, the ‘new normal’ will prohibit mass gathering and require children to remain at home. These conditions left us with no choice but to close the play city’s doors permanently,” the letter reads.
Kidzania Manila mentions they will try their best to compensate their workers. They will comply with the mandatory law for their employee’s severance benefits. Kidzania further adds they are trying to provide a job placement program.
Lastly, the official letter from Kidzania expressed their gratitude towards the industry partners, schools, and families who have trusted Kidzania. Kidzania’s gratitude also reaches the kids who have been a part of Kidzania, also known as Kals, or the Generation KidZania. They hope the generation could build a better world.
