Nintendo records a quatrain in profit only in three months
CNN discloses the Japanese company ended last June’s quarter with $145 billion yen ($1.37 billion) in operating profit. The profit soared 482% compared to the same period of time last year. The number also exceeds the estimated 62 billion yen of profit by analysts. Nintendo’s sales doubled from last year’s performance, reaping around 385 billion yen ($3.4 billion) into the company.
The biggest and sudden surge of sales happened from April to June. In the specified time period only, Nintendo sold 5.7 million of the relatively new-released Nintendo Switch. With this, Nintendo marks an annual increase of 167%. A significantly distinct success compared to similar companies’ results in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
Nintendo Switch x ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ demolish other competitors
“Animal Crossing: New Horizons” become one of the device’s best sellers. The game has been on high demand since stay at home quarantine happens worldwide. With the public’s craze over the “soul-healing” game, 10.6 million copies of Animal Crossing sold in the most recent quarter. Overall, 22.4 million copies of the game were sold. Currently, Animal Crossing ranks second in Nintendo’s best-selling games. “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” is still unbeatable with a total of 26.7 million sales. The company game acknowledges software sales played a big role in Nintendo’s growth in 2020.
Due to the local factory shut down in China, Nintendo faced supply issues last spring. The issue caused component shortages and put output at factories in Vietnam on a stall. However, Nintendo official mentions the problem is now resolved.
Nintendo’s further plan to maintain profit
The Kyoto-based company plans to ride the Animal Crossing wave to promote other games. Upon them are the recently released “Paper Mario: The Origami King”, as well as the soon to be released “Pikmin 3 Deluxe” and new content for Pokémon players. Nintendo also promises to provide more new titles soon to keep the platform active.
