Apple said on Friday its decision to bar Fortnite’s creator from developer tools. In addition, the updated games on its mobile devices have been followed through.
The decision to remove Epic Games from the iOS developer program came just days after a US court dismissed its request to reinstate Fortnite on the App Store. Furthermore, Apple’s removal was a “self-inflicted wound.”
The decision against Epic Games comes in the middle of a dispute over whether Apple’s strong influence over the App Store. And then, its sales reduction of 30 percent count as monopoly behavior.
“We feel disappointed the termination of the Epic Games on the App Store.”
Fortnite Won’t be on Apple Store Anymore on August 13
Apple pulled Fortnite from its online mobile apps marketplace on August 13. Epic released an update that dodges revenue sharing with the iPhone maker.
Apple does not allow users of its popular devices to download apps from anywhere but its App Store.
The tech giant based in Silicon Valley told Epic it would cut off access to the resources needed to customize the software for smartphones operated by operating systems from the iPhone manufacturer.
A judge’s ruling this week also prevented Apple from cutting off Epic from accessing developer tools for its Unreal Engine to power computer graphics.
“Apple is asking that Epic revert Fortnite to exclusively use Apple payments,” Epic said in reply to an AFP inquiry.
“As a matter of principle, we won’t participate in this scheme.”
Apple no longer permits Epic to upload applications or updates via a developer account.
Players with earlier Fortnite versions can still play on iPhones or iPads. But then, it will need to rely on Apple’s transaction payment system.
