After countless of image and video clip teasers and months of waiting, ‘BTS Universe Story’ is now available on Apple’s App Store and Google play worldwide. The visual novel mobile game is based on Big Hit Entertainment’s best-selling act’s, BTS, alternate universe story.
BTS Universe: a brief explanation of the gameplay
“BTS Universe” is Big Hit Entertainment and Netmarble’s second project together after “BTS world”. Different from the previous game, “BTS Universe” involves its players to dive into BTS’ parallel universe. The story circles around the main character, “Jin”, and his attempts to save his six other friends from foreboding tragedy through time loops.
Forbes mentioned dozen active storylines are available to play, but users can also generate their own stories through the application. The game also provides different alternative plotlines varying from zombie apocalypse, and historic settings. Netmarble also installs augmented reality in the game to bring the characters into life.
Netmarble: icons after icons as the main characters
BTS isn’t the first big icon to have collaborated with Netmarble. The game company has previously partnered up with Marvel through “Marvel: Future Fight” back in 2015. According to Forbes, the mobile action RPG was downloaded by more than 50 million times only after a year since its release date. The game also charted on the top ten in 118 countries, including the U.S., Britain and South Korea.
Netmarble’s success with “Marvel: Future Fight” is proof that a popular pop culture icon can bridge two different gaming cultures. Forbes explained despite the gaming style’s association with typical “Asian” action games, Marvel’s IP managed to engage users into trying the game. The gaming company seems to be repeating the strategy, but with a different subject.
How BTS became Netmarble’s next big thing
Quoted from Forbes, Netmarble US President, Simon Sim, revealed that BTS’ broad artistry and creative platform are interesting subjects for the game development.
BTS’ pre-existing parallel universe, labelled as well as “BTS Universe”, generated a lot of demand from its fans. Started from the plotline of their music videos, Big Hit Entertainment further integrated the story to a variety of products such as “BTS the Notes” books, “Save Me” webtoon, and the “BTS Universe” game. Sim revealed his excitement to experiment with the story. He also expressed the desire to add more innovative features to the game in the future.
