After a number of US government agencies became victims of hacks allegedly masterminded by Russia. Reportedly a number of technology giants were also breached by their security. Some of them are Cisco, Intel, Nvidia, Belkin and VMware.
The previous perpetrator managed to break into the IT management company, SolarWinds. The entire company has a network of computers connected to malware and possibly infected following last week’s mass hacking.
It is not only the big names who are likely to be affected by the incident. SolarWinds estimates that less than 18,000 companies have been affected, quoted from The Verge, Tuesday (22/12/2020).
All companies that are suspected of being affected are currently unanimous in saying that they are investigating it. But they also made sure that the incident did not affect the company.
For information, last week it was revealed that SolarWinds was hacked and had an impact on a number of its clients who were US government agencies. One of them is the US Department of Energy which has held evidence that the perpetrators had access to their network.
Another victim is the US nuclear weapons management agency, the National Nuclear Security Administrator.
Lastly, it was discovered that the attacker also hacked the Ministry of Finance and reportedly became the most significant attack and was not fully known by the government.
According to one US Senator, Ron Wyden said dozens of email accounts from the Treasury Department had been infiltrated by the perpetrators. However, until now the Institute does not know what information I was able to retrieve.
