Telegram founder and CEO, Pavel Durov, stated that a number of world presidents have now become Telegram users due to the Whatsapp case.
On Thursday (14/1) night, via his official account on Telegram, Durov announced that two presidents had become new Telegram users.
The two presidents joined after their latest posts about the increase in user numbers in recent times.
“Since my last post, the entry of new users to Telegram has accelerated massively. We are probably witnessing the largest digital migration in human history,” Durov said via his Telegram account.
“Following this global phenomenon, two presidents started a Telegram channel,” he said.
Durov revealed that the two presidents who had recently become telegram users were Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro (@jairbolsonarobrasil) and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (@RTErdogan).
The presence of Bolsonaro and Erdogan, said Durov, adds to the long list of heads of state using his application.
Previously, heads of state who have used Telegram:
– Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (@PresidenteAMLO),
– Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (@leehsienloong).
– President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky (@V_Zelenskiy_official),
– President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev (@shmirziyoyev),
– President of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen (@iingtw),
– Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed (@AbiyAhmedAliofficial), and
– Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (@bnetanyahu).
Durov said all the presidents were verified accounts because they displayed blue ticks in chat lists and in user search results.
Furthermore, Durov admitted that he was very honored with political leaders and many public organizations used Telegram. He claims Telegram can be relied on to combat misinformation and spread awareness about important issues in their society.
