At the beginning of 2019, Samsung announced launching for Samsung Galaxy Fold. The smartphone raised a lot of anticipation from gadget enthusiasts. It is the first smartphone ever to have foldable dual screen.
But everything fell down at its review period. Customers complained that their smartphone screen broke in less than a week since arriving. And some even found foreign objects within its protector film.
The problems forced Samsung to pull off its product. Just a week before its official launch, the company announced a delay. The title of first foldable phone is now taken by LG. Within its’ revision time, LG launched LG V50 ThinQ, a foldable dual screen smartphone half the price of Galaxy Fold.
Galaxy Fold is coming, but we don’t know exactly when
In May 10, Samsung held a meeting attended by its heads of smartphone department. The 5 hours meeting is to discuss relaunching time for the phone. As well as doing a final review on the renewed version.
The result is that the phone might be available sooner. Though, it wont be released first in USA, like its’ initial plan. To be able to launch in USA, it needs a radio certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). And it usually takes up to 2 or 3 months.
The phone would instead be available in South Korea first, with the 5G version. The launch in other countries depends on each country’s certification.
Samsung is also changing the price of Galaxy Fold. Previously, it is set to sell at around $250 or 24 million won. But many people consider the price pretty high. And it is very dangerous for Samsung to still sell it by the initial price.
The company needs to regain trust from its customers. Repricing is one mean of compensating customers. Beside, it has to compete with LG V50 ThinQ as the LG smartphone is half the price of Galaxy Fold. With similar features and technology, price would stand big for the market.
