PowerPoint, which is considered by some company bosses as an important asset to support the company’s success, apparently is not for these billionaires, namely Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos to Elon Musk. Apple founder Steve Jobs apparently isn’t the only billionaire who hates PowerPoint for meeting purposes. This view was also shared by two US technology company bosses Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.
In December 2020, Tesla CEO Elon Musk publicly advised company officials in US to limit the use of PowerPoint during meetings.
PowerPoint Will Only Waste Time
According to Musk, meetings using PowerPoint will only take up a lot of time. Thus, this time could have been more used to focus on product or service development.
“Do executives in the United States focus on improving products? I don’t think so. Be wise in managing your finances, reduce your time for meetings, and limit your use of PowerPoint,” Musk said.
By implication, Musk wants company leaders to really focus on innovating their products and services. That way, the company’s goal to make a profit will certainly be achieved.
In addition, Musk also advised entrepreneurs in the US to better understand what their consumers want so that they know how to produce quality products.
PowerPoint Is Ineffective
In contrast to Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos has banned the use of PowerPoint since 2004. The reason is that PowerPoint is considered ineffective to be used as a reference or support in meeting sessions.
In exchange, the Amazon CEO gave a six-page memo to meeting attendees. The memo is used to write ideas in a narrative manner during the meeting.
After that, the participants were given about 30 minutes to understand the ideas or topics they had written before being discussed together.
