The leading electric car manufacturer from the United States, Tesla Inc, is opening jobs for a semi truck production line in Nevada, USA. The news shows that Tesla is serious about making this type of car again after a delay since 2017.
Position Needed
On the official website of the Tesla.com website, the three positions sought for the semi truck production line in Sparks, Nevada are, Quality Engineering Manager, Process Technician, and Process Engineer. There is also where Tesla makes batteries for electric cars in collaboration with Panasonic.
Previously, Tesla announced that it wanted to make a semi truck in November 2017. At that time the target was that the US public could experience an electric truck two years later.
At that time, the company also announced it would sell a 300 mile range version for US $ 150,000 and a 500 mile range version for US $ 180,000. The claim is that the truck will go from 0-60 mph in five seconds without cargo, or 0-60 mph in 20 seconds with a load of 80,000 pounds.
The Production Ever Stopped in The Third Quarter of 2019
After receiving orders from Anheuser-Busch, DHL Group, PepsiCo, Pride Group and Walmart, Tesla announced that it would suspend production in the third quarter of 2019 and April 2020.
In June 2020, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is again serious about the production of electric trucks.
“It’s time to all out, and bring the Tesla semi truck into production volume. So far the product is limited, which allows us to improve many aspects of the design,” he said, quoting CNBC International, Sunday (24/1/2021).
In the memo, Musk also said battery and power train production would take place at Giga Nevada, and most of the other work would probably in other US states.
But in the submission of the third quarter 2020 financial report, Tesla only mentioned that the semi-truck manufacturing initiative was under development, while the production location had yet to be determined.
The back and forth of the manufacture of this type of Tesla car has not stopped. As of November 2020, Musk, in an interview Conference in Europe, again mentioned that Tesla is targeting this semi-truck to go further on a single charge.
“You can go a long distance with a truck up to 800 kilometers and roughly it can reach a range of 1,000 kilometers,” he said.
He claims the company has several prototypes that have been in operation for more than a year. But Musk has yet to reveal when full production, or remote batteries to begin.
Currently to order a semi truck Tesla unit, the buyer must prepare US $ 20,000 (refundable). Up from the previous order price of only US $ 5,000.
Meanwhile, Daimler is in small-scale production with Quebec-based eCascadia electric trucks and Lion Electric to build SPAC, a new American plant. From the results of this cooperation, we have signed an agreement to deliver 2,500 electric truck batteries to Amazon for the next five years.
