One of the first steps of President of the United States (US) Joe Biden is to pass new rules regarding a series of executive actions to combat climate change. This rule is inversely proportional to Donald Trump’s policy of maximizing oil and gas and coal production by eliminating pro-environmental policies.
Terminating New Oil and Gas Contracts
One of the actions of the US 46th president is to terminate (the moratorium) on new oil and gas contracts in US land and waters. It also cuts subsidies for fossil fuels.
The former Barack Obama era vice president also directed officials to create multiple conservation areas. As well as creating special services for groups affected by air and water pollution.
Biden launched a “whole-of-government approach” to put climate change issues as a domestic US rule. In addition, national security and foreign policy. He promised to build new infrastructure and create millions of well-paying jobs.
“In my opinion, we have been waiting too long to deal with this climate crisis,” Biden said at the White House ceremony quoted Thursday (28/1/2021).
“This is a case where conscience and comfort intersect. Where (we) face an existential threat to the planet. But it must increase our economic growth and prosperity as one and the same thing. When I think of climate change and its answers, I think of work. , “he explained again.
Joe Biden Could Lose Billions of Dollars Due to These Rules
Meanwhile, US climate envoy John Kerry said the country would announce its latest targets for reducing emissions by 2030 at the April 22 international climate meeting. The meeting was held by Biden directly.
Last week, Biden announced he was rejoining the Paris Agreement. Trump has previously ignored this. Previously, Biden’s focus has disappointed many large US oil and gas companies.
They argue that the new president will cost millions of jobs and billions of dollars in income for the US currently hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
It has also drawn criticism from several states that are dependent on drilling revenues. Namely the states in the western part of the US, including offshore drilling activities which are mostly located in the Gulf of Mexico, which, when combined, can produce a quarter of the US oil and gas supply.
