Like former president of the United States Donald Trump, Joe Biden apparently also took the same steps, namely blocking Huawei. Joe Biden issued this regulation under the pretext of protecting the United States (US) telecommunications network from “untrusted vendors” such as Huawei Technologies Co Ltd.
“Telecommunications equipment made by untrusted vendors, including Huawei, is a threat to the security of the US and our allies,” said White House press secretary Jen Psaki, quoting from Reuters, Thursday (28/1/2021).
“We will ensure that American telecommunications networks do not use equipment from untrusted vendors. And we will work with allies to secure their telecommunications networks. And also invest in expanding production of telecommunications equipment by US companies and trusted allies.”
Huawei Hasn’t Commented Yet
Huawei declined to comment on the statement by the White House and the Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The election of Joe Biden as the 46th US president earlier this month has raised questions about how the government treats Huawei. The Trump administration has previously accused Huawei devices that could be compromised by the Chinese government to spy on its customers.
Huawei has repeatedly denied these allegations, saying it is an independent company. So, it will not provide access even if requested by the Chinese Government.
Biden’s predecessor, Republican Donald Trump, and led a global campaign to convince allies to use the Chinese tech giant’s tools from their networks.
