A Billionaire Jeff Bezos is stepping down from Amazon CEO that he has held for 26 years. The position of Amazon CEO has now been passed on to Andy Jassy who was CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS). Let’s get to know Andy Jassy’s profile more!
Andy Jassy Is Great in Growing Amazon’s Cloud Business
“Andy is well known within the company and has been at Amazon almost as long as I am. He will be an extraordinary leader, and he has full confidence in me,” said Jeff Bezos.
During its establishment since 27 years ago, this is the first time there is a change of CEO of Amazon. Jassy, who was 53 years old previously served as CEO of Amazon Web Services or AWS since 2016. He has long been touted as the strongest candidate for Amazon CEO if Bezos chose to resign.
Quoting CNBC, Wednesday (3/2/2021), AWS under his leadership made Amazon known not only as an online store, but also a leading cloud computing infrastructure company and always making big profits. No wonder Jeff Bezos was impressed with him.
Andy Jassy Graduated from Harvard Business School
Jassy is a Harvard alumnus, graduated from S1 in 1990 and continued to Harvard Business School until his completion in 1997. He immediately worked at Amazon and never left the company.
Her work at AWS is exquisite. When it started in 2006, AWS focused on providing cloud storage and computing capacity mostly to small technology companies. AWS then successfully attracted many companies to use its services and became a market leader.
In mid-20020, AWS was still dominant with 33% control of the cloud infrastructure services market, followed by Microsoft with 18% market share and Google with 9%. In the fourth quarter of 2020, AWS revenue reached USD 12.7 billion.
The appointment of Jassy indicates that Amazon views the cloud business as very important to the company’s future and does not want to be overtaken by Microsoft or Google, which have recently been very aggressive. Of course, Jassy didn’t want to disappoint Jeff Bezos.
