Releasing PS5 during pandemic is the right decision for Sony. Sony’s sales value increased dramatically, making a huge profit of up to 40%. The value is 883.2 billion yen. In addition, sales of game software last November also greatly influenced Sony’s increase in revenue. The division received revenue of 80.2 billion yen, an increase of about 50% from the previous year.
It’s been reported that Sony shipped 4.5 million PS5 consoles last year. The figure was in line with what some analysts had previously expected.
According to a report by research company Omdia, the new console is expected to sell 17.8 million units by the end of 2021. Meanwhile, in 2024, the PS5 is likely to sell 63.9 million units.
Meanwhile, Sony’s operating profit from October to December was 359.2 billion yen. That figure is up 20% from the same period the previous year, quoted by CNBC International, Thursday (4/2/2021).
With this positive trend, Sony is confident in raising its profit forecast for the 12 months to March 2021 to 940 billion yen, up 34% from the 700 billion yen previously estimated.
It is estimated that sales will reach 8.8 trillion yen in the full fiscal year, up 4% from 8.5 trillion yen in October.
