The first decacorn of Southeast Asia, Grab, announced earlier today its plan to support several countries on the COVID-19 vaccination program. Grab’s support comes in a lot of different ways, from a donation, vaccination, and promoting information from governments and health authorities through the app.
Grab goes all in to help COVID-19 mitigation
According to Tech Crunch, Grab will be contributing to COVID-19 mitigation. Grab will be providing vaccines for all of its employees, drivers and delivery partners. The Southeast Asian ride-hailing and on-demand delivery giant plans to finish the vaccination program by 2022.
Grab will also help governments in delivering information related to the vaccines through its app. To help understand public sentiment about COVID-19, Grab might also use its app to ask for user surveys. Grab itself has been downloaded for more than 200 million downloads. With such a number, Grab’s initiative can really be helpful in spreading official information. If possible, Grab is also looking to provide last-mile vaccine distribution, including transportation to and from vaccination centres, Tech Crunch notes.
Grab’s group managing director of operations, Russel Cohen, mentioned on a statement that, “the quicker we can achieve herd immunity, the sooner our communities and economies can start to rebuild. Public-private partnership has been critical in taking on some of the pandemic’s biggest battles, and this collaboration should continue.”
Currently, Grab’s service is available in eight Southeast Asian countries: Singapore, Cambogia, Indonesia, Malaysia Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Grab becomes the next private companies to support vaccination program support to the governments. Accordingly, numeral tech companies from Microsoft, Oracle, Salesforce and Epic have announced that they will backing up the United States. Additionally, Didi Chuxing, China‘s largest ride-hailing company, also pledged to donate $10 million for the vaccination programs in 13 countries.
Ensure welfare, Grab ready to spend millions for drivers and delivery partners
Grab is ready to spend millions of dollars for its employees’ welfare. The company will allocate subsidies for COVID-19 vaccine costs not covered by national vaccination programs. Grab is also looking to extend its Group Prolonged Medical Leave insurance. The policy will cover income loss by drivers due to the potential side effects from COVID-19 vaccination.
