1. Brian Armstrong, worth $ 6.5 billion
Armstrong is the owner of Coinbase, a cryptocurrency trading platform. Coinbase is one of the most popular platforms, with daily transactions of up to 3 billion US dollars.
Armstrong founded Coinbase after working at Deloitte and Airbnb.
At least, Armstrong owns about 20 percent of Coinbase, which last December filed documents to go public on the local stock exchange.
2. Sam Bankman-Fried, worth $ 4.5 billion
At the age of 28, Bankman-Fried manages assets of US $ 2.5 billion through Alameda Research, a quantitative crypto trading firm that he founded in 2017.
Bankman-Fried is an MIT graduate and former Wall Street ETF trader. He also launched FTX, a crypto derivatives exchange, in 2019. Most of his wealth is in the form of FTX equity and tokens (FTT).
3. Chris Larsen, worth $ 2.9 billion
Larsen is an entrepreneur who reaches almost all financial assets. Having founded the online loan company Eloan in 1997, Delaoan later founded a similar company, Prosper.
Then in 2012, together with Jed McCaleb he founded Ripple to facilitate international payments for banks with blockchain technology and a token called XRP.
In January 2018, the cryptocurrency bubble briefly boosted his fortune to more than 17 billion US dollars. However, XRP fell with the rest of the market when the bubble burst later that year.
4. Michael Saylor, worth $ 2 billion
Saylor is the CEO of the software company MicroStrategy. In December 2020, the company announced that it had used cash and borrowed $ 650 million to buy 70,784 bitcoins with a value of $ 1.1 billion.
Today, that amount is equivalent to $ 2.5 billion.
On the other hand, Saylor at the same time also bought 17,732 pieces of bitcoin with a value of 175 million US dollars, or currently the equivalent of 650 million US dollars.
5. Changpeng Zhao, worth $ 1.9 billion.
This Chinese software developer sold his house in 2014 to buy bitcoin.
