When we thought we have enough of TikTok, Facebook came to say that we still need more. The internal R&D group of Facebook, NPE Team, introduces BARS, an app marketed for rappers to create and share their raps on pre-created beats. The app is currently only available for Apple users residing in the United States.
More about BARS
Currently, BARS is still mostly an experimental app. BARS is the NPE Team’s second project after the music video app Collab. BARS is marketed towards rappers to create and share videos of their raps. The videos will then show up on other users home page. BARS also provides professionally made beats for its users. It can even suggest rhymes as you write lyrics, offer different audio and visual to audio editors.
BARS and TikTok: the resemblance
TikTok is becoming more of a multifunctional platform. The pandemic has halted a lot of musicians’ access to live music. Thus, several musicians have started to take things online. With more musicians streaming into TikTok, some even managed to collaborate with each other and gained spotlights through the app. The trend is, obviously, coming for rappers too and BARS is not letting it go.
According to Tech Crunch, the user interface of BARS might be quite familiar to TikTok users. With two-tabbed vertical video interface of “featured” and “new” feeds resemble TikTok‘s “Following” and “For You”. Engagement buttons are also placed in a similar place, BARS on the lower-right corner while TikTok on the lower-left.
Apart from BARS, the R&D division from Facebook has been launching new experimental apps such as Collab and E.gg. The future of these apps, however, is not really settled yet. Facebook has also shut down several apps like Pinterest-like video app Hobbi.
