There will be a 24 hour option for ‘Disappearing Messages’
If previously there were only seven days, there will be an option for 24 hours. So after being sent, 24 hours later the message will be automatically deleted from the chat page.
“Thefeature is under development and will be available in an update for iOS, Android and Web / Desktop in the future,” said the WaBetaInfo report, quoted from Business Insider, Tuesday (27/4/2021).
Disappearing Messages with a seven-day option was released by WhatsApp last November. This WhatsApp feature is already available for iOS and Android users.
There are different rules for those who want to activate in personal and group chats. For personal chat, both people can activate and deactivate the feature. Meanwhile, only admins in the group have control.
Then why seven days? “Because we think there will be peace of mind when the conversation is not permanent, but still practically you won’t forget what was being said,” WhatsApp said.
But WhatsApp also reminds us to use features on people who can be trusted. Because there is a possibility that someone can take a screenshot of the Disappearing Messages message and will save it before it disappears.
How to Activate Disappearing Messages
Now while waiting for the 24 hour option, maybe you want to practice how to activate Disappearing Messages with a choice of seven days. You just have to click on the name of the individual or group that you want to activate this feature.
After that press Disappearing Messages and select On. Keep in mind there are a few notes of this feature, namely:
If the user does not open the application for seven days, the message remains lost. But the notification will still be displayed until WhatsApp is opened.
When replying by quoting the message Disappearing Messages is activated, the message does not disappear even though it has been seven days.
If Disappearing Messages messages are forwarded to chats with the feature turned off, they won’t disappear there.
If the user creates a backup before the message disappears, the feature will be included in the backup. Disappearing Messages will disable when the user has restored the backup.
