Chairman and CEO of Landry, Tilman Fertitta, said most of his restaurants will soon accept Bitcoin as payment. He said the policy would be carried out for 80%-90% of his restaurant brands.
“We’ll have it, maybe, in all of our restaurant brands or 80% to 90% in the next 90 days, where you won’t have to use Mastercard or Visa or American Express anymore. You can use Bitcoin or any other digital currency,” said Fertitta, quoted from CNBC, Wednesday (28/4/2021).
Fertitta said dozens of restaurants across the US have allowed Bitcoin payments this week. The company’s other brands will also follow, including Morton’s The Steakhouse and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
Fertitta: This isn’t The First Time
According to Fertitta, this policy is not a new step for the company. His luxury car dealership in Houston has been allowing digital cash payments since 2018.
Fertitta’s plans came about three weeks after billionaire real estate firm Rick Caruso announced plans to accept bitcoin as rental payments on its residential and retail properties. Tesla also allowed customers to buy its electric vehicles using bitcoin earlier this year.
