TaniGroup, which consists of TaniHub and TaniFund, is an Indonesian agritech startup. Recently, it announced that it’s Series A funding raised the company $10 million. Golden Gate Ventures and DFS Lab, under Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation led the investment round,
Although Malaysia has made a love call for the startup to open its branch in Malaysia, it would not be anytime soon. Pamitra Wineka, the CEO and co-founder of the group stated that it is still focusing on developing in Indonesia. Especially outside of the Java Island.
TaniGroup, TaniHub, and TaniFund
Wineka and his team of seven, founded TaniGroup in 2015. Previously working on The World’s Bank, he came back home and found the miserable lives of many farmer in Indonesia. He set the group’s biggest mission as to strengthen Indonesian food security.
TaniHub acts as a content e-commerce for agricultural products. It connect farmers to other farmers and customers. The customers in the platform includes big supermarkets, small vendors and individual customers.
With TaniHub, farmers experience an increase of 30% production per month. Their income also increasing by 60% due to a better management of products and more consistent market.
In an official statement, the company said that it has more than 25,000 farmers from all around Indonesia in its platform. Those farmers can conncet to 400 small and medium enterprises and more than 10,000 individual customers.
However despite the wide land of the country, it only has five regional offices and distribution hubs. They are in Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. All of them within Java.
To improve the life of its farmers, TaniGroup launched TaniFund. The subsidiary works to give the farmers an easier access to financing services. They can loan seeds or fertilizer from TaniFund, instead of loaning money to buy it. Furthermore, it help the farmers managing their finances.
For the future, TaniGroup has plans on working with the government. It is an answer to Jokowi’s previous mention of the startup in the presidental debate last month. The company is committed to improve Indonesia’s agriculture industry.
