China has been the world’s biggest market of electric vehicles or EV. Tesla proves it right after it sold its China-produced Model 3 cars just within 3 minutes after its launch.
Even though the car would not be shipped before November this year, people already crammed up the pre-order. The huge number of order caused the entire website to crash down. And all of them are from China. The car is indeed has a cheaper price than other EVs. The cheapest one is only at $47.500.
The sales re-confirm Tesla’s place as the world’s number one EV maker company. The company proved that they can still sell their cars despite the previously reported sluggish market by NIO.
Tesla Model 3: The World’s Most Popular EV
The original Tesla Model 3 has the title of the most popular electric car in 2018. It topped the other cars made by China BJEC, EC180 and Japanese Nissan Leaf.
Nissan Leaf is originally the most popular EV with a total of about 40,000 units sold worldwide. And it is still the most favorite model in the European market. But the sales went for 9 years since its launch. Meanwhile Tesla Model 3 recorded 145,000 cars delivered in 2018 only.
In July last year, Elon Musk, Tesla’s founder, announced the company’s plan of manufacturing the car in its new Shanghai factory. The factory is the key of making affordable versions of Model 3 and Model Y.
It is focusing directly on the world’s biggest EV market. It has 56% market share of the world’s EV industry. EV sales in China increased by 78% in 2018 from the previous year. It recorded 1.18 million deliveries. While in 2017 it only made 663,000 deliveries.
Meanwhile, Japanese market of the EV has a contrast growth than the Chinese. The rising sun country saw a drop in plug-in sales for Toyota Prius after Nissan Leaf launched it’s second generation.
