Tesla wants to sell electricity directly to customers in Texas, United States (US). The plan was revealed through an application filed with the local Public Utility Commission this month.
Texas Monthly was the first to report Tesla’s plans to sell electricity to users. The request is in line with the start of construction of a giant battery in Angleton, Texas, which will connect a 100 megawatt energy storage system to the grid.
Tesla Has Built Energy Storage Systems
Tesla has also built several utility-scale energy storage systems around the world, including one east of Los Angeles. Others are in Monterey, California, and two in Australia (Victoria and Adelaide), as quoted from CNBC International, Friday (27/8/2021).
Previously, electric car and solar panel company Elon Musk has been able to fatten its margins with green credit sales over the years. For example, in the second quarter of 2020, green credit sales generated US$104 million.

Businesses requiring the service typically include automakers, oil and gas providers, and retail energy providers to comply with regulations limiting the amount of greenhouse gases, Thus they can emit it each year.
If approved as a retail electricity provider in Texas, Tesla Energy Ventures will use employees from Tesla’s energy division — the same division that sells rooftop solar — to increase sales and provide customer service in the state.
The Tesla app also notes that it will work with Engie Energy Marketing on scheduling.
