After releasing its’ first 5G smartphone, LG V5 ThinQ, LG U+ is preparing the future of 5G generation. The telecommunication subsidiary of LG Corp believes that AR or Augmented Reality is going to be the trend in the 5G gen.
Hence it announce an investment worth of KRW 100 billion or $8.4 million for the development of AR contents. The company recently opened its’ first AR studio in Seocho-dong, Seoul last month. The studio focuses on making AR contents.
A picture posted in LG U+ homepage shows a woman dancing while being surrounded by 30 cameras around her. The camera is to capture her entire moves, not missing anything.
The camera send images taken at the UHD level 4k to 45 dedicated servers. The servers then re-created the images through the technique of making 360 degree stereoscopic images.
LG U+ on the Augmented Reality project
The era of 5G will bring high demand of high-quality and realistic content. Securing an early step on the AR content will be a strategy to get hold the future. LG U+ is making AR content in various areas including education, entertainment and sports.
In addition, it also announced its plan on building and AR content ecosystem by joining hands with AR content developers. And it also has plans on adding another AR professional studio this year.
LG U+ bragged that their studio is the first in the world to combine videos from 30 4K cameras to make a content video. The 4K quality of the video creates a variety of stereoscopic images for the viewers.
The company plans on producing 1,500 Augmented Reality contents this year. At the beginning of April, it has only around 400 contents. Now it has 750 contents, half the goal the company has set.
A representative of LG U+ stated that they will expand the AR content in August to other areas aside of K-Pop as it is now. The demand of various vivid contents is high.
