Just a few weeks ago, Grab launched GrabBajay in Indonesia. The feature combines Grab technology and Indonesia’s traditional three wheeled ride, Bajay. Now, it launches a similar yet greener one in Thailand, GrabTukTuk.
Similar to GrabBajay, GrabTukTuk also comes in a three wheeled ride model. TukTuk, as well as Bajay, is a much cheaper alternative to taxis, allowing up to two persons in a ride. Grab signed an MoU with both Chiang Mai government and Ciang Mai Smart Mobility Alliance Network.
GrabTukTuk, the future of sustainable transport
Grab claimed that GrabTukTuk Electric is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. The company has set the goal for this feature to reduce pollution by 35% from private vehicles. According to Energy Conservation Laboratory, KMUTT, each TukTuk can reduce emission from greenhouse gas up to 4.18 tons per year.
This is a project collaboration with the government of Chiang Mai. The government has been working on Smart Mobility project. It’s been going on in the Nimmanhaemin area under Smart Nimman project. The goal is to increase efficiency of public transportation, reduce air pollution, elevate the quality of life and move towars Smart Mobility.
Grab also joins partnership with TukTuk drivers, changing their rides to the electric one. It would create better income for them as they can save 80% of their fuel cost. One GrabTukTuk Electric only costs THB 1,400 to charge, while a traditional TukTuk needs at least THB6,000 worth of fuel per month.
The service is available through Grab apps. It allows both local users and tourists to book the ride easily.
Grab also launches a hotel booking feature recently. The booking feature is available through a partnership with booking platforms, Agoda and Booking.com.
Users can use this service through the new ‘Hotels’ feature in Grab app. It compares prices from millions of rooms in many countries across Southeast Asia.
