Due to AWS outage, not only delivery but also online subscription services, stocks and cryptocurrency transactions were suspended, causing damage.
According to CNBC, a notice was posted on the status page of Amazon Web Services (AWS) on the 7th (local time) that there was an outage with a specific API and AWS management console.
The notice said, “The service suspension occurred from 11 a.m. that day. It is resuming use across most AWS services and continues to strive for full recovery”.
Services that caused problems due to the suspension of the service included streaming subscription service Disney Plus and Netflix, business communication platform Slack, ticketing company Ticketmaster, stock trading app Robin Hood, and Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States.
The suspension of the service also disrupted programs inside Amazon, paralyzing logistics and delivery workers. Because the business syswtem was not accessible, package search or delivery route access was impossible.
Amazon spokesman Richard Rocha said, “Amazon’s warehouse and delivery are causing problems due to the suspension of AWS. We are trying to solve the problem as soon as possible, he said. However, it did not answer how many logistics warehouses and delivery problems occurred.
In an interview with CNBC, Amazon’s delivery driver Samuel Kassus said, “The delivery system has been suspended since 8 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time). Since then, drivers and warehouse workers have been on standby, he said.Amazon reportedly instructed workers to wait in the lounge until the problem was resolved.
The system failure added pressure to deliver products on time amid a flood of orders ahead of Christmas and the end of the year.
The problem occurred at the Northern Virginia Center in the U.S., and the damage was concentrated in the northeastern U.S. managed by the center. As a result, CNBC reported that not all users may have experienced a shutdowns.
