Last Tuesday, June the 4th, there’s an event called Future Food Asia Award held in Singapore. In the award event, Phyto Corporation from South Korea won the Startup SG Award.

Phyto Corporation is an innovative food and biotechnology startup in the mission of creating the future of food. It is introducing its Salicornia-based products to the world.
Salicornia itself is a plant grows in the seawater. It is the only edible halophyte that can be cultivated using the seawater agriculture method. The method is sustainable for the age of water and food shortage.
The company has created the world’s first 100% plant-based salt called the PhytoSalt. Extracted from the plant itself, preclinical trials revealed that PhytoSalt is effective on high blood pressure. It also a microplastics-free salt, which is very rare in this much polluted world.
Apart from the PhytoSalt, Phyto Corporation develops PhytoMeal and MemoryTea as their so-called future food. The PhytoMeal contains less calories than flour but is very similar, a perfect alternative of diet food. While MemoryTea helps maintaining brain cells, causing better memories for the drinker.
Despite the international award it received, Phyto Corporation is a very small startup. Established in 2017, the company is a part of project by the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Seoul National University, South Korea. It is working on everything inside the campus building.
Future Food Asia and Startup SG Awards
Future Food Asia has Israeli venture capital firm, ID Capital ,at its back. The Singapore-based firm is awarding awards to discover and foster promising agricultural and food technology startup in Asia.
Meanwhile its Startup SG Awards selected four of more than 100 innovative technology companies. It assessed the startups for its sustainable, patent-based innovations and products in future foods. As well as promising startups with potential global growth.
