Electric vehicle Tesla has released blockbuster quarterly sales againn for Q4 of 2021. Despite the lack of global semiconductors, it increased production in China, far exceeding Wall Street expectations. Sales exceeded expectations for six consecutive quarters, breaking the record high.
According to Reuters on the 2nd (local time), Tesla delivered 308,600 electric vehicles in the fourth quarter of last year, far exceeding Wall Street expectations of 263,026 vehicles. It increased by 70% year-on-year and increased by 30% from the third quarter, the highest ever. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, tweeted, “It’s a great achievement made by Tesla teams around the world.”
Competition for electric vehicles intensified and consumer complaints about safety increased regulatory pressure, but Tesla accelerated production and sales in China. Tesla sent models produced in China to Europe and other Asian countries.
Overall, Tesla sold 936,172 units last year, up 87% year-on-year in 2021. CEO Musk said in October that Tesla’s sales will continue to grow more than 50% annually for a “quite for a while.”
◇ It’s expected to reach 1.3 million to 1.5 million units.
Tesla broke all expectations, Jean Munster, general partner of venture capital firm Rob Ventures, told Reuters. He said, “The demand for the first Tesla product has skyrocketed. Second, Tesla is doing great things that meet demand, he explained. Tesla sales will increase to 1.3 million units this year despite supply chain problems and production problems at new factories, he predicted. Deutsche Bank predicted Tesla’s production of 1.5 million units this year.
Zachary Kirkhorn, chief financial officer of Tesla, said in October that it is hard to predict how quickly production will increase at new factories in Texas and Berlin, Germany. Tesla planned to start production at its new plants in Texas and Berlin late last year. However, Tesla said in October that it remains to be seen whether it will be able to achieve this goal. When asked whether the new plant will be operated, Tesla did not provide an answer. The initial plan for the Berlin plant was to start production last summer.
